What to Expect in Sony Ericsson Spiro

Some probably thought that the Walkman series from Sony Ericsson has reached a dead end. Apparently, this is not the case. The company unveiled their latest handset last April 2010. The mobile device is intended for the hip and younger generation who are into music and into staying connected with their friends and family. This is because this new Walkman phone is integrated with applications that support social networking. While the Sony Ericsson Spiro is not yet out in the market, the company has unveiled some of the features of the handset. Let’s take a look at some of these features.

The Look and Feel

This mobile device will be available in colors of stealth black, sunset pink, spring green and contrast black. The handset is a slider phone with a rectangular shape. It has contoured edges. It comes in dimensions of 92 x 48 x 16.8 mm. The phone is relatively light with a weight of 90 grams.
Unlike most phones out in the market, this phone does not come with a touch screen. The phone’s screen is a 2.2 inch TFT screen with resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. It can display up to 256K colors.

At the back of the phone is a built in 2-megapixel digital camera that can also be used to record videos. For those who love entertainment, the phone comes with a Walkman 4.0 player which is perfect for playing music. The phone provides the users with instant access to the TrackID feature. The TrackID allows the phone to “hear” the song being played.

It then identifies the title of the song and from which artist. The phone also allows users to access PlayNow music store. Through this application, music lovers can easily browse and tune in to their favorite songs. The phone also has a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Communications

Mobile phone users can easily send their files through cellular networks to other handsets with this phone since it supports EDGE and GPRS. The phone also comes with Bluetooth technology and microUSB. These features allow users to connect with other devices whether through wireless (Bluetooth) or cabled (microUSB) connections.

The company also incorporated features that support social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter into the phone. This is perfect for those who want to be always updated and connected with their peers.

Like all other phones, this handset permits users to send messages via SMS, MMS, Email, Push Email, and IM. Mobile phone users can spend hours on the phone since the handset uses a standard Li-Ion battery with talk time of 4 hours and 30 minutes. It can go as long as 476 hours standby. Furthermore, the phone can store up to 2000 contacts.

Availability

The phone is not yet available in the market. In the United Kingdom, the phone is expected to be released sometime during third quarter of the year. There are no official reports regarding the retail price of the handset but it is said to cost lower than most phones out in the market today.
